Welcome to the Cigar Dude's
Smoking Room

The main purpose of this page is to give me a forum to voice my views and opinions on cigars, good beer and fine wine. It's also a pretty good way for me to learn HTML. This page was first created on May 8, 1996 and will take some time to evolve, so if you are into cigars you might want to check back every once in a while to see what's up. It is always nice to know what other people are smoking and what they think of the cigars because the more information that you have, the easier it will be for you to choose your next cigar. Happy smoking.

Soon to come!!

Lately I have been doing alot of research(read: surfing) trying to feel out exactly what I want to put on this page and what the layout will look like. This isn't as easy as I thought it was going to be, however I have a pretty good idea what I want this page to look like in the future(I want to say when it's finished, but then you're never really finished with a web page, are you?). I will be adding a section on what to look for in a good cigar and some descriptive words that can be used to describe a cigar. I have a hard time putting in to words what I think of the cigars that I smoke, and I also tend to use the same few words over and over. Hopefully this section will help others to report their cigar experiences.

I will also be adding an expanded section of links, but these links will only be to individuals cigar pages, not commercial pages, because you only really need one commercial link and that is to the Fuji Cigar Page. Since I live in New York City, there will also be a resource guide for people living in or visiting NYC. This guide will eventually include cigar stores(the good ones, anyway, as most bodegas in the city sell a variety of cigars from Te-Amos up to Partagas and Macanudos), some of the better stores in which to buy good wine and the bars with the best beer lists in the city.

I have decided, at this point, to keep the graphics to a minimum, so that people with slower modems won't have much of a problem, but mostly because the nice people at GeoCities only give you 1 meg of free space, and pictures can take up alot of space(I still intend to add gif's of the cigar bands though).

Lastly, I am working on developing a Microsoft Access database that contains all of the Cigar Afficionado and Cigar Insider(the sister publication of CA) ratings from their inception. This database is searchable using any of the parameters that you want like rating, cost, country of manufacture, ring, length(I think that you get the idea). I've got about 1000 entries now and it works pretty well. I made a list of the top 50 legally available cigars according to these publications, which I will soon make available at this site(first I need to check with a lawyer friend of mine to see if I can electronically publish this information from these magazines without being sued for copyright violations).
